Lahore Fort, popularly known as Shahi Qila, rising out of the Northwest corner of Lahore City, was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar in the 15th century. This noble structure is spread over an area of 20 Hectares and in its time was the citadel of the Lahore city. Boasting of love, romance, warriors and royalty, the massive walls of this structure hide in themselves beautiful courtyard, evergreen gardens with hundreds of year old cypress trees, exquisite stone staircase and marble minarets all asserting the charming taste of the Mughal royalty. Two of the thirteen gates protecting the Walled City of Lahore namely Alamgiri Gate and Maseeti Gate also open from the Lahore Fort. A few major attractions for tourists inside the Lahore Fort include Deewan-e-Khaas, Sheesh Mahal, Deewan-e-Aam, Naulakha Pavillion and Moti Masjid.
